What’s Causing Your Hip Pain?
Here’s one test that we do in physical therapy to assess patients with hip pain. We’re just doing a FABER test, which is the figure four position where your opposing leg is extended. We can either use this as a tissue length assessment or as a pain provocation type test.
With pressing down, if there is pain in either his hip or his back, that might be indicative of some sort of pathology going on in either of those regions.
We often see a “positive” test if a patient has hip impingement, a hip labral issue, or just generalized hip pain.
Performing this type of testing can more importantly give your physical therapist a better idea of what types of exercises or interventions would be appropriate to start with on your plan of care.
At Peak Pursuit Performance and Rehab, we offer both in person physical therapy services in Salt Lake City, Utah and online remote consultations for those outside the city. If you are looking for help with your hip pain, stiffness, or tightness, give us a call at (801) 215-9087.
